Must…Keep…Satirizing…

111103wb.jpg

Readers,

I’m writing to you with mixed emotions today. On a positive note, I think we have a very good issue for you this month…we put a lot of work in and we’re confident you’ll enjoy the latest edition.

On the other hand, I’ve been reading the news the last few days and things are not good. Not good. The news reminds us of how fallen this world is, and it breaks our heart.

We are struggling in how to deal with it all. For every great story, there are ten examples of how corrupt humanity can be. North Korean missile tests; terrorist attacks in India; Israel and Lebanon…I’m leaving out plenty. I’m looking at the stories on CNN.com right now, and I want to throw up.

So, readers, please pray. Pray right now. Pray as long as you can. I don’t even know what you should pray for, so pray for everything and everyone, and pray to know God more.

I digress.

It’s a stark contrast, to be sure, but we’ve yet another piece from Chad Gibbs. This time, he takes us through the steps of building a MySpace.com page. In the face of a dark world, it helps to laugh, and Chad (and our friend Aaron Donley) are exceptional at helping us.

I’ve posted my Summer Mix for your perusal. Maybe you’ll find some stuff there to enjoy in the sun. I also reviewed Guster’s latest, and new contributor Dan Mancini talks about an instant classic: The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of a website called TheOnion.com, but I decided to break out the whupping stick on them here.

As of today, audio files are available at the BWC/DonaldMillerWords.com store. Only three talks are up so far, but they are some good ones. We also have bumperstickers that should be available very soon. You’ll see.

We also welcomed an intern into the BWC fold since our last issue. Ariele Gentiles recently graduated from Baylor University and moved to Portland to help us out. You may recognize Ariele’s last name…her dad was an important father figure to Don, and he is featured prominently in Don’s book, To Own a Dragon. It’s been great to have her around the office, especially when I need coffee and don’t want to interrupt my nap. The only downside is we can’t fart quite as much because she won’t stop silently weeping when we do.

Anyway, enjoy!

Sincerely,
Jordan Green
BWC

P.S. Some very good folks are auctioning autographed copies of Don’s first book, “Prayer and the Art of Volkswagen Maintenance” on eBay. They are doing a good thing with that auction, so check it out here.

End
