Welcome to 2008!

Dear Burnside readers,

The holidays are over, and in rolls the humdrum of winter. At least the days are getting longer, right?

It’s been some time since we checked in via the Letters from the Editor section. It’s been an eventful year for everyone, and Burnside has been no exception. We kicked off our fundraising drive to build a new site.

At it turns out, September of 2008 was not an ideal time to begin fundraising, what with the economic crisis and all. Still, readers have been tremendously generous, and it’s not like we’re auto executives. We’ve raised $4,000 of our $10,000 goal. Those gifts have started the ball rolling…Metaleap Design has already sent sketches of our new logo, and the next step is laying out the site map, how everything will be organized.

While there’s still a long way to go, but we are actually over half way to our primary goal, which is having the site rebuilt. The site WILL be redone, even if it means some of our editors carrying the remaining cost. We could sure use your help, though! Any donation is beyond appreciated. We want to show you what we can do, what we’ve dreamed up. Please help us make that happen.

At times, we feel like a kid waiting for Christmas…pondering the possibilities a new layout will bring. We’re already gearing In case you missed it, we’ve started a series of columns over on the Burnside Blog, many of which will play heavily in the new site. You can view a short list on the right sidebar of the blog.

But this is our goal right now: build Burnside 2.0.
