We’re Back!

Everyone,
So, I messed something up last week…something to do with the server, and David Allen worked his butt off (with the invaluable help of Coach Culbertson over at Relief Journal) to get the site back up again. Because of the fiasco, we’re offering a limited issue and saving some of our articles for the December 1st release. We’ve still got some kinks to work out, so that’s why, for instance, the author’s names aren’t available.
In case you missed it, we have two bits of news for you, and we’d like to thank anyone who kept checking back with us to find out what that news was. If you were expecting a release date for a new Donald Miller book, or you’re looking for a Jerry Falwell admission of getting “massages” and buying meth, we’re sorry to disappoint you.
NEWS #1: The Ankeny Briefcase, Vol. 1 is now available to pre-order! While the book won’t actually be shipped until December 1st, we’ve got a few extra little perks to include with the first 200 copies, so you’ll want to pick your issue up ASAP. Some of the perks include:
- The first 200 copies will be hand-numbered and customized by an Ankeny contributor.
- Being the first on your block to own a copy of The Ankeny Briefcase.
- Other things we’ve got up our sleeve.
If you’re confused right now, The Ankeny Briefcase is a collection of short stories and assorted oddities from unpublished writers, including BWC’s very own Chad Gibbs and Aaron Donley. The collection is edited by myself, Ariele Gentiles and Kim Culbertson. We’ve been working on it for quite some time now, and we’re very pleased to finally make it available. Click HERE to pre-order your copy today!
NEWS #2: In January, www.burnsidewriterscollective.com will be moving to a weekly publishing date. We figure we’re ready for the next level, and we think our readers will like us more if we put out more articles more often. More.
What this means is, we’re going to want all the contributors we can get. For those of you who don’t understand the submission process, it works like this:
A. You write and article.
B. You send your article, preferably as a Word document, to reviews@burnsidewriterscollective.com.
C. We read your article, and publish it if we think it fits with the magazine.
Easy as pie.
Burnside is also pleased to announce two new members of our crew: John Pattison will be our book editor, and Bob Ham will be our music editor. They’ll help Jonathan, Penny and I deal with the upped ante of weekly issues.
Okay, I’m forgetting something here…there was something else I needed to tell our readers…I can’t think of it now. I’ll post it if it pops to mind.
In the meantime, we won’t be updating our poll under the letters to the editors page until December 1st, either. You’ll have to wait until then to see the top 50 states, ranked in order by the Burnside audience.
I remembered! There are two incredible YouTube clips to show you. 1) If you missed Scott Andreas’s comment on last issue’s “O Holy Night” article, please check out the video he passed on of Li’l Markie. You have to wait about a minute to get to the good stuff. That’s all I’m going to say.
2) You’ve probably seen the phenomenon of the Bank of America employee singing U2’s classic “One”. In case you haven’t, check it out and see how long you can hold on before puking. The singer was interviewed on NPR today, and referred to his detractors as “judgmental”, which may be true, but he still turned one of the finest songs ever written into a corporate joke. The writing staff for “The Office” never could’ve come up with something this absurd.
David Cross covers the B of A cover of U2 here. It’ll cheer you up. This is the world we live in, people.
Happy Thanksgiving!
